The Head chef is mainly responsible for planning menus, overseeing the kitchen staff, and ensuring that the food meets high-quality standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure all food is prepared to the highest quality standards and served in a timely manner, maintaining consistency in taste and presentation.
- Oversee all kitchen operations, including coordinating and assisting kitchen staff as needed to ensure smooth workflows and excellent service.
- Adjust menus based on the availability of ingredients, seasonal changes, and customer preferences.
- Take stock of kitchen ingredients and equipment, and place orders to replenish stock as needed. Monitor stock levels to ensure timely ordering of supplies.
- Recruit, train, and manage kitchen staff, ensuring that the team is well-trained and capable of meeting operational demands. Oversee the day-to-day running of kitchen activities.
- Ensure meals are prepared and served to customers as per the order, and ensure they are presented in an aesthetically pleasing way.
- Ensure compliance with all kitchen safety and sanitation regulations, including overseeing regular cleaning and disinfecting of work equipment such as fryers and kitchen surfaces.
- Manage work schedules for kitchen staff, ensuring optimal staffing levels for efficient kitchen operations.
- Set up the kitchen with the necessary cooking utensils and equipment, such as knives, pans, and kitchen scales.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in the kitchen area, maintaining a safe work environment.
- Determine how food should be presented, creating decorative displays and garnishes to enhance visual appeal.
Requirements
Academic qualification
- bachelor's degree or Diploma in Food Preparation or related field
Years of experience
- Minimum of 8+ years of experience in a reputable restaurant/Hotel.
Additional qualifications
- Proven work experience as a Chef in preparation of Asian food is advantageous.
- Ability to remain calm and undertake various tasks;
- Excellent time management abilities;
- Up-to-date knowledge of cooking techniques and recipes;
- Good understanding of sanitation regulations;
- Leadership and communication skills;
- Strong organizational and planning skills;
