Job Position: Surgical Scrub Nurse

Job Summary:

We are hiring for a Surgical Scrub Nurse, who plays an essential role in ensuring the sterile environment of the operating room and assisting surgical teams in providing safe,effective, and high-quality care to patients during surgery. You will be responsible for scrubbing in for surgeries, preparing sterile instruments, and ensuring that all equipment and supplies are available and functioning throughout the surgical procedure. This role requires attention to detail, the ability to remain calm under pressure, and strong teamwork and communication skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

•  Ensure the operating room is sterile, organized, and fully equipped for surgical procedures;

• Prepare surgical instruments, supplies, and sterile drapes for the surgical team;
• Set up and verify all equipment, ensuring that everything is in working order and ready for use;
• Scrub in to assist during surgeries, maintaining a sterile field and providing the necessary instruments and supplies to the surgical team;
• Assist the surgeon and other team members with handling instruments, retracting tissues, and other tasks as needed;
• Assist in preparing patients for surgery, ensuring that they are safely positioned and correctly draped;
• Maintain communication with the surgical team to address any issues or adjustments during the procedure;
• Provide support to patients and their families before and after surgery as needed;
• Strictly adhere to sterile techniques to prevent infection and ensure patient safety;
• Monitor for any breaches in sterility and promptly notify the surgical team;
• Ensure all used surgical instruments and supplies are properly disposed of or sterilized for future use;
• Assist with documenting surgical procedures, including the usage of instruments and supplies;
• Report any issues, complications, or unusual occurrences during surgery to the appropriate medical staff;
• Work closely with the surgical team, anesthetists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure smooth and efficient surgeries;
• Maintain clear and effective communication with the surgical team to ensure patient safety and surgical efficiency;
• Any other tasks assigned by your immediate supervisor.

Skills:

• In-depth knowledge of sterile techniques, surgical instruments, and operating room procedures;
• Strong attention to detail, ensuring all equipment and procedures are handled safely and correctly;
• Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure, fast-paced environments;
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with the surgical team;
• Strong commitment to patient safety, infection control, and maintaining a sterile field;
• Compassionate and empathetic approach when interacting with patients and their families.

Experience:

• Minimum of 4+ years of experience as a Scrub Nurse or Surgical Technologist in a hospital or surgical setting;
• Strong experience in assisting with various types of surgeries, including general, orthopedic, and/or specialized surgical procedures.

Education:

• Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Nursing;
• Certification in Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support is an added value.
