We are looking for a qualified Junior Cost Accountant, we are looking for a Cost Accountant who will be responsible for planning, analyzing, and controlling cost-related activities to support efficient production operations. The role involves preparing detailed cost reports, performing variance analysis, and working closely with production and procurement teams to ensure cost efficiency.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Establish, update, and maintain accurate product costing systems, including bills of materials, labor, and overhead allocation rates;
- Prepare comprehensive cost reports and analysis, including product cost structures, manufacturing variances, cost of goods manufactured and cost of goods sold;
- Perform detailed variance analysis to identify inefficiencies, investigate root causes, and propose corrective actions to management;
- Monitor raw material, work-in-progress, and finished goods inventory valuations;
- Conduct regular stock reconciliations in coordination with the warehouse and production teams;
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, cost forecasts, and rolling financial projections specific to production and operational areas;
- Work closely with procurement, production, and supply chain departments to identify cost-saving opportunities and implement effective cost control measures;
- Provide detailed cost breakdowns to support pricing strategies for new products, tenders, and quotations, ensuring competitiveness and profitability;
- Ensure proper documentation of costing processes, maintain adherence to internal financial controls, and support internal and external audits;
- Continuously assess cost accounting processes for efficiency improvements and automation where possible;
- Prepare periodic management reports that provide insights into cost trends, profitability by product lines;
- Assists in other organizational activities and tasks, as assigned.
Requirements
Academic qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Additional qualifications
- Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and practices;
- Proficiency in accounting software and MS Excel;
- Experience with ERP systems is a plus;
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills;
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams;
- Knowledge of Ethiopian tax and financial regulations is advantageous.
Years of experience: Minimum of 2 - 3 years’ proven work experience as a Cost Accountant
