On behalf of our client, SARIA Consultancy, a Recruiter in Ethiopia, looking for an experienced, diplomatic, and firm Employee Relations Officer to maintain positive employer-employee relationships, ensure labor law compliance, and manage all disciplinary and grievance processes professionally. The Employee Relations Officer will act as the primary point of contact for all employee relations matters, handle grievances and disciplinary actions, and promote a fair, respectful, and productive workplace in full compliance with the Ethiopian Labor Proclamation.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as the main contact for employee queries, grievances, and complaints; investigate and resolve issues in a timely, fair, and confidential manner;
- Manage the full disciplinary process (verbal warnings, written warnings, hearings, suspensions, terminations) in strict compliance with Labor Proclamation 1156/2019 and internal policies;
- Prepare investigation reports, hearing minutes, and termination letters with proper legal wording;
- Coordinate and participate in disciplinary hearings and appeal committees;
- Build and maintain constructive relationships with trade union representatives and lead or support collective bargaining/negotiation processes;
- Advise managers and staff on labor law, company policies, and best practices in employee relations;
- Mediate conflicts between employees or between employees and supervisors to prevent escalation;
- Develop and deliver training on code of conduct, anti-harassment, grievance procedures, and labor law updates;
- Monitor workplace climate through regular engagement, exit interviews, and stay interviews;
- Ensure accurate documentation and record-keeping of all ER cases for audit and legal purposes;
- Support the revision and communication of HR policies and employee handbook;
- Prepare monthly/quarterly ER reports (grievances, disciplinary cases, turnover trends);
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Employee Relations Manager.
Educational Qualifications;
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Management, or related fields.
Required Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of Ethiopian Labor Proclamation, directives, and recent amendments;
- Proven experience conducting investigations and disciplinary hearings;
- Strong mediation, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills;
- Excellent report writing and minute-taking abilities;
- High level of integrity, impartiality, and confidentiality;
- Fluency in English and Amharic (both written and spoken); additional local languages are a plus;
- Ability to remain calm and professional in tense situations;
- Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
Years of experience;
- 4+ years hands-on experience in employee relations, industrial relations, or labor law compliance.
