On behalf of our client, we are seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated Junior Customs Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring that goods entering or leaving the country comply with all relevant customs laws, regulations, and procedures. The role requires strong analytical skills, integrity, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure while safeguarding revenue and facilitating smooth trade operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspect, verify, and process import and export documentation in compliance with customs regulations;
- Conduct physical and documentary checks on shipments to prevent smuggling, fraud, or illegal trade;
- Assess and collect duties, taxes, tariffs, and other applicable levies on goods;
- Ensure proper classification and valuation of goods in accordance with international customs codes;
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of customs transactions and reports;
- Collaborate with port authorities, law enforcement, and other government agencies to ensure compliance and security;
- Provide guidance and support to traders, importers, and exporters regarding customs requirements;
- Monitor and enforce laws to prevent prohibited and restricted goods from entering or leaving the country;
- Handle disputes, appeals, and investigations related to customs declarations when necessary;
- Other tasks assigned by your immediate supervisor.
Requirements;
Qualification:
- Degree in Supply Chain, Business, Law, Economics, or a related field.
Additional Skills:
- Strong knowledge of customs laws, import/export procedures, and trade regulations;
- High integrity and commitment to enforcing compliance with fairness and transparency;
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse stakeholders;
- Proficiency in computer applications and familiarity with automated customs systems;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a high-pressure environment.
Work experience:
- 1+ years' experience in customs, logistics, or trade compliance is highly desirable.
