Job Position: Oil Seed Purchaser (Sesame & Other Oil Seeds)

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Oilseed Purchaser to manage the procurement of sesame and other oilseeds for our company. The role involves identifying and engaging reliable suppliers, negotiating favorable terms, monitoring market trends, and ensuring the timely delivery of quality raw materials. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of agricultural commodities, particularly sesame, and strong experience in supply chain, sourcing, and vendor management. This position plays a critical role in securing raw material supplies that support our production and export operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop and execute effective sourcing strategies for sesame and other oil seeds to meet company demand;
• Build and maintain strong relationships with farmers, cooperatives, suppliers, and brokers to secure reliable supply sources;
• Monitor market trends, commodity prices, and seasonal patterns to make informed purchasing decisions;
• Negotiate contracts, pricing, and payment terms with suppliers to ensure cost-effectiveness and quality;
• Oversee procurement processes, from purchase orders to delivery and quality inspection;
• Ensure compliance with company policies, legal regulations, and international trade standards (where applicable);
• Collaborate with quality assurance teams to maintain strict quality standards for purchased seeds;
• Manage logistics coordination for transporting oil seeds from sourcing locations to storage/processing facilities;
• Maintain accurate records of purchases, supplier agreements, and inventory levels;
• Provide regular market intelligence reports and procurement updates to management;
• Perform other assignments specified by the immediate supervisor.

Requirements

Qualification: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Agribusiness, or related field.
• Training or certification in procurement, commodity trading, or contract management is an advantage.

Additional Skills 

• Strong knowledge of sesame and oil seed markets, pricing trends, and quality standards.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
• Analytical skills with the ability to assess suppliers, risks, and market opportunities.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to work under pressure, handle multiple sourcing operations, and travel to supplier locations.

Work Experience

• Minimum 4+ years of procurement experience in agricultural commodities, preferably in oil seeds (sesame, Niger seed, sunflower, etc.).
• Proven track record in supplier development, contract negotiation, and raw material sourcing.
• Experience in the FMCG, export, or ago-processing industry is highly desirable.

Work Station: Addis Ababa, with frequent travel to Amhara Region
